Blanc-seing, n. — a signature given on a blank page; unconditional authority granted in advance. The term entered diplomatic French to describe what a sovereign hands an envoy, and commercial French to describe what a fool hands his banker. We publish essays about the territory between those two meanings.
Blanc-Seing is a quarterly publication on the intersection of international business and geopolitics. We are interested in the mechanics rather than the mood: how sanctions actually clear, what a sovereign wealth mandate actually says, why a smelter gets built in one jurisdiction and not another. Our contributors are practitioners, scholars, and the occasional recovering official. Essays are edited on the assumption that the reader is intelligent, busy, and allergic to jargon.
The quarterly appears in March, June, September, and December, on this site. We carry no advertising and publish no sponsored content.
